FerruccioMaierna

Ferruccio Maierna is a sculptor born in Amsterdam in 1969; he lived in Brussels for the period of his personal training, then he moved to Italy, more precisely to Rome where he currently lives and works.
The influences he received at the Belgian academies l’Ecole des arts d’Ixelles and the Academy of Anderlecht have brought him closer to metal, currently the preferred material for his sculptures: since 2015 his art focused on reinterpreting oil drums and jars, the means of expression he likes the most.
Conceptually close to the creativity of recycling and recovery, the selected material is entirely treated by hand through various processes, more or less rudimentary and sophisticated: compression, lamination, extension…
These are the key words that circumscribe the work of the sculptor Ferruccio Maierna.
Through the visibility of the numerous personal and collective exhibitions, both in Italy and abroad – Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Poland – Maierna has been involved in the design and creation of furnishing accessories: lamps, tables, jewellery boxes, stools, and other projects in the field of fashion, including a capsule collection for the Gianni Bravo brand, creating the outer covering of the shoe heels.
This year he was selected by an international jury to take part in the 30th edition of Miniartexil at the Pinacoteca Civica in Como. In April 2021, on commission from ‘Italia Yachts’, he created the trophy for the third edition of the Coppa dei Campioni in Punta Ala, in the province of Grosseto, the local offshore sailing championship.
During his career as a sculptor, Ferruccio Maierna has received many awards and recognitions, the most recent are the 2017 ‘Lewton-Brain Foldform competition’ organised in the United States.
